Verify figures with a licensed professional and official IRS sources (irs.gov) before making decisions. Confirm the current year’s deadline on IRS.gov. Disaster relief and holidays can move a date. This countdown only shifts April 15 when it falls on a weekend.

Next typical filing date

Weekend-adjusted April 15: —

For calendar-year individuals, that date is the usual deadline to file the prior year’s Form 1040. From September 2026, the next April 15 is April 15, 2027, which is a Thursday, so the weekend rule does not move it. It is the typical deadline for the 2026 return.

What the countdown is counting

Individual calendar-year returns are generally due on April 15 of the following year. The IRS estimated-tax FAQ uses April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15 of the following year for the four payment periods, and it says a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday pushes the payment to the next business day. The third-quarter IRS tax calendar lists September 15, 2026 as the date for individuals to pay the third installment of 2026 estimated tax. Use the estimated tax calculator for the amount, not this clock.

Dates this page will not invent

State returns, fiscal-year businesses, employment-tax deposits, and information returns such as Form 1099-NEC have their own calendars. The 1099-NEC instructions are the authority for that form’s due date. S corporation and partnership returns are not April 15. If you are looking at a notice, the date on the notice controls, and this reminder does not interpret it.
