The arithmetic

Tip equals the bill times the percent. Total equals the bill plus the tip. Each person pays the total divided by the headcount, and the headcount is at least one. On a $64.50 bill at 18%, the tip is $11.61 and the total is $76.11. Split two ways, each share is half of that total.

Tip = Bill × Tip percent
Each person = (Bill + Tip) ÷ People

A receipt is not a payroll system

This is a dining-table tool. If you run a business that receives tips, federal income tax, Social Security, and Medicare rules for tipped employees are a different subject, covered in IRS publications for employers rather than here. A business meal you pay, including a tip, is an expense question with its own limits. Record the meal, the tip, and the business purpose in the books, and use an expense category that you can explain later. Do not net the tip into sales tax. Sales tax, if any, was already inside the bill or beside it — the sales tax calculator handles that rate separately.
